PLN to develop electricity ecosystem in Tanzania

Tanzania Electric Supply Co. Ltd. (TANESCO), a parastatal company incorporated in 1931, has adopted a business transformation implemented by Indonesian state-owned electric company PT PLN (Persero), aiming to carry out similar developments in Africa. The agreement was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo and Managing Director of TANESCO, Maharage Chande, in the presence of Indonesian President, Joko Widodo and Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, on August 22. The signing of an MoU between PLN and TANESCO signifies a significant milestone in the field of international business cooperation. This agreement entails the adoption of PLN’s successful business transformation model by TANESCO, ultimately demonstrating PLN’s intention to expand its presence in the global market. President Director of PLN Darmawan Prasodjo explained that the MoU was a follow-up to a previous meeting in Jakarta on February 10, 2023, with Tanzania’s Minister of Energy, January Makamba and TANESCO Management, regarding a cooperation with Indonesia in developing Tanzania’s electricity sector ecosystem. Darmawan added the MoU specifically outlines four key areas of collaboration. First, it highlights the importance of digital-based transformation, indicating a joint effort to embrace technology and innovation to enhance efficiency and reliability in power supply services, such as Digitalised Power Plant, Digitally Enabled Distribution Excellence, and Super App utility. Secondly, the MoU emphasises the development of the core utility business which includes which includes Maintenance, Repair, and Operation (MRO), and Collaborative Co-investment. The third point of cooperation focuses on the development of non-core utility businesses such maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO). TSMC, Bosch, Infineon, and NXP establish to bring advanced semiconductor manufacturing to Europe

Robert Bosch GmbH, Infineon Technologies AG and NXP Semiconductors N.V. will jointly invest in European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (ESMC) GmbH, in Dresden, Germany to provide advanced semiconductor manufacturing services. ESMC marks a significant step towards construction of a 300mm fab to support the future capacity needs of the fast-growing automotive and industrial sectors, with the final investment decision pending confirmation of the level of public funding for this project. The project is planned under the framework of the European Chips Act. The planned fab is expected to have a monthly production capacity of 40,000 300mm (12-inch) wafers on TSMC’s 28/22 nanometer planar CMOS and 16/12 nanometer FinFET process technology, further strengthening Europe’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem with advanced FinFET transistor technology and creating about 2,000 direct high-tech professional jobs. ESMC aims to begin construction of the fab in the second half of 2024 with production targeted to begin by the end of 2027. The planned joint venture will be 70% owned by TSMC, with Bosch, Infineon, and NXP each holding 10% equity stake, subject to regulatory approvals and other conditions. Total investments are expected to exceed 10 billion euros consisting of equity injection, debt borrowing, and strong support from the European Union and German government. Zoomlion Construction Machinery makes strides in international Markets

China, Indonesia, and Vietnam to lead global growth for coming decade

China, India, Indonesia, Uganda, and Vietnam are projected to be among the fastest-growing economies for the coming decade, according to researchers at the Growth Lab at Harvard University. The new growth projections presented in The Atlas of Economic Complexity include the first detailed look at 2021 trade data, which reveal continued disruptions from the uneven economic recovery to the global pandemic. China is expected to be the fastest-growing economy per capita, although its growth rate is smaller than gains seen over the past decade. Growth over the coming decade is projected to take off in three growth poles, East Asia, Eastern Europe, and East Africa. Several Asian economies already hold the necessary economic complexity to drive the fastest growth over the coming decade to 2031, led by China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and India. In East Africa, several economies are expected to experience rapid growth, though driven more by population growth than gains in economic complexity, which include Uganda, Tanzania, and Mozambique. Eastern Europe holds strong growth potential for its continued advances in economic complexity, with Georgia, Lithuania, Belarus, Armenia, Latvia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, and Albania all ranking in the projected top 15 economies on a per capita basis. Outside these growth poles, the projections also show potential for Egypt to achieve more rapid growth.
