Veolia expands mobile water services fleet to address growing needs in Oceania

Veolia expands its mobile water services fleet in Oceania to support municipalities, mining operations, and other industrial customers with advanced treatment technologies including clarification, filtration, reverse osmosis and ion exchange systems.

  • New additions include Hydrotech™ disc filters for enhanced solids removal and Actiflo® clarification units to improve water clarity and minimise pollutants in both discharged and recycled water, delivering greater efficiency in a compact footprint.
  • Expansion strengthens Veolia’s ability to provide rapid-response water treatment solutions while supporting its GreenUp strategic programme for ecological transformation.

Veolia is expanding its mobile water services fleet in Oceania, reinforcing its long-term commitment to helping mining, municipal, and other industrial customers to meet diverse and evolving water treatment needs. As part of the company’s GreenUp strategic programme — Veolia’s global initiative to accelerate ecological transformation — the expanded fleet will help organisations enhance water efficiency and reduce environmental impact through rapidly deployable, high-performance water treatment solutions.

Veolia’s mobile water treatment portfolio in Oceania now offers one of the most comprehensive ranges of solutions available in the market. This includes clarification, filtration, reverse osmosis, and ion exchange technologies through a diverse fleet of mobile Actiflo® clarifiers, Hydrotech™ disc filters, and ZeeWeed™ ultrafiltration membranes.

These flexible, modular mobile assets are designed to address a wide range of water treatment challenges, from emergency response and planned maintenance to long-term augmentation of existing plant capacity.

Recent investments to expand the fleet have allowed the addition of the following high-performance technologies:

  • The newly introduced mobile Hydrotech disc filter technology provides enhanced solids removal, reducing fine suspended solids with its 10-micron filtration system. Treatment capacity ranges from 90 to 360 cubic metres per hour (m3/h), delivering greater efficiency without increasing the system’s footprint.
  • Veolia’s Actiflo clarification system uses microsand ballast to accelerate the settling of suspended solids and precipitation of dissolved metals. This process improves water clarity and minimises pollutants in both discharged and recycled water. The mobile Actiflo units can process up to 250 m3/h within a single 40-foot container while removing up to 90% of suspended solids.

The system’s modular design allows multiple units to be deployed in combination to meet different flow requirements. This flexibility makes it suitable for a range of operational needs, including mining applications, such as tailings water management and site dewatering.

The existing submerged ultrafiltration systems complement Veolia’s suite of mobile water treatment solutions, enhancing its ability to meet diverse water treatment needs. These energy-efficient, high recovery systems use the ZeeWeed Ultrafiltration Hollow-Fiber Membranes to deliver high-quality water treatment within a compact footprint.

With the highest solids tolerance among hollow-fiber membranes, these ultrafiltration systems are well-suited as a pre-treatment step in the reverse osmosis process or as standalone filtration in industrial and municipal applications.

Mining industry benefits from enhanced mobile water treatment solutions

Veolia’s mobile water services have played a critical role in supporting the mining industry, where remote locations, harsh environments, and fluctuating water demands pose ongoing operational challenges. By providing rapid-response, plug-and-play water treatment solutions, this offering has helped mining sites maintain uninterrupted operations during planned maintenance, emergency outages, or seasonal demand spikes.

One example includes supporting a major mining operation in Western Australia where mobile water assets were deployed to provide temporary process water treatment, allowing the site to continue production while permanent infrastructure was undergoing an upgrade. Delivered through an OPEX-based model, this solution allows mining companies to avoid large upfront capital costs while gaining access to advanced water treatment technologies, technical expertise, and ongoing operational support.

With the arrival of new mobile water assets in Oceania, Veolia is strengthening its ability to respond faster and more flexibly to the needs of the mining sector, helping customers meet strict water quality requirements, minimize downtime, and optimize resource efficiency.

“Operators today need water treatment solutions that are both effective and adaptable,” said Christopher Harpham, SVP for Veolia’s water technology activities in Oceania. “With this expansion, we have increased our service and operations capacity on the field to help customers meet stricter water quality standards and support industries across Australia and New Zealand to manage water more efficiently and responsibly.”

This latest fleet expansion reflects Veolia’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its mobile water services and to supporting customers toward more sustainable water use. With a main service centre based in Brisbane, Veolia is well-positioned to respond quickly to regional needs. By advancing its technologies and expanding its footprint throughout the region, the company continues to drive ecological transformation in line with its GreenUp strategic program to depollute, decarbonise, and regenerate water resources.
